Project type- 7. Physical Infrastructure including Environmental services

Project sub-type- Expansion of National Highways greater than 30 km

Project Details - Public Hearing for NHAI proposing Development of the existing 2 lanes carriageway to 4 / 6 lanes dual carriageway configurations including strengthening of existing 2 lanes from proposed Km 28.200 to proposed Km 110.542 of Solapur to Bijapur Section of NH 13 in the states of Maharashtra & Karnataka. This includes expansion of the existing 2 lanes carriageway to 4/6 lanes dual carriageway including strengthening of existing 2 lanes from chainage Km 28.200 to Km 110.542 of Solapur to Bijapur Section in Karnataka State. The project road falls under Solapur South (Maharashtra), Indi & Bijapur (Karnataka) Talukas.Impact on soil: The project districts have three types of soils viz. Black soils, Red sandy soils and mixed soils.Due to the proposed project the soil will no longer be exposed in the proposed site for interaction with air and other biotic factors. Impact due to Seismic Zone: The entire stretch of the project highway traverses through sub category seismic zone II of seismic zoning classification system. Likely impacts on the project due to an earthquake and safety of the highway users would need to be considered.Impact on Forest land: The alignment of the proposed project road passes along patches of forest lands at alignment is likely to directly impact the Reserve Forest area at Nandnani. The total forestland required for the project is 2.665 ha.The trees that are to be felled are a total of 7684 trees of various species have been identified for felling. The predominant tree species as per the project proponent are Acacia sp., Neem (Azadirchta indica), Siris (Albizia procera), Eucalyptus sp., Banyan (Ficus bengalensis), Peepal (Ficus religiosa), Babul (Acacia nilotica) & Subabul (Leucaena leucocephela). The forest department have reported the presence of some wild & endangered animals in the forest areas within the project area. Impacts on settlements, Institutes and Religious structures. A total of 25 major and minor settlements varying in size and populations are present along the project corridor. There are a number of educational institutes along the existing project corridor. These sensitive receptors are exposed to dust and noise from the road. Some of these educational institutions are located on the edge of the road. The project highway traverses through a number of settlements and there are some religious and cultural properties which though not of archaeological significance are nevertheless, significant to the community. In view of all the above concerns the project would not be feasible in the proposed project site.
